Okay, so setting up your blog has three main parts. It’s very simple. Ignore all the long winded articles with big techy words. This is THE SIMPLEST guide to understand how to start a successful blog.

1. Pick A Name – Strategic, Catchy, Simple or All Three

You need to come up with a blog name. Choose a name that reflects what you’ll be talking about on the blog.

If you’re having trouble deciding what to talk about, use my simple technique for creating brands. It’s when you add an adjective/ descriptor to your subject to help narrow your focus.

Example: You want to talk about dogs... What about them? You want to talk about their wellness. So dog wellness. Do you want to talk about all dogs or specific breeds. You own a bull dog and have become familiar with their unique health challenges so only want to focus on them.

Subject: Dogs, Focus: Wellness, Descriptor: Bulldog

It’s very cool if you can work the subject into the blog’s name. So naming the blog HappyBulldog would be great. Don’t worry, if you’re having a hard time coming up with a name still, feel free to shoot me an email.

2. Get a domain name – your .com, .co, .blog, .tech, etc.

You get a domain name. Whatever is available. Don’t sweat the dot com FOMO. You can get a . co.uk if it makes sense. I’m kidding, don’t get a .co.uk. Try to align it with your focus. You buy your domain name from a place that sells them called a registrar, because they register them online for you to buy.

It’s like clothes, you can buy them everywhere… but we have brands and stores we prefer. That’s what I recommend Namecheap. It’s got great UI, design and is easy to understand. You also have access to chat and support if you need them.

3. Get Hosting – Rent Space on the Internet for Your Blog

Owning your website is important. Hosting allows YOU to OWN your website. If you allow someone else to have control over your website, like WIX, Blogger, etc. you basically let them decide when they can shut your site down at anytime. Also, if they go out of business… you’re website goes out of business.

Bluehost is great for hosting your website. I recommend them because they have the best support and easiest to understand user interface and design. They’re also cost effective as you can get A FREE SSL and plans as low as $3.95/month.

So that’s it. Name, domain name, web hosting. Once you have all three set up, you’ll edit you’re Namecheap servers to point to Bluehost, wait, then follow the WordPress install wizard.

If you use our discount link to sign up for Bluehost, we’ll set up your blog for FREE. If you don’t use it, we’ll still help you anyways.
